This Isn't Myspace...Or Is It?

Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply Dress (available at macy's)
H&M Necklace
Seychelles Boots

So if you never put your camera on a self-timer and made a makeshift tripod using outdoor furniture, did you ever even live? Front cameras, selfie sticks-- who needs 'em? I'll take this method any day for selfies. Not to mention, this was my go-to method of taking photos during my myspace days.

See? Young ootdbymaggie had the right idea. The only thing that would make this photo better is a sepia filter and a song lyric caption. I would definitely set this as my default.

Anyway, in the outfit above this ~vintage~ pic from 2006, I am wearing a floral dress, a statement necklace, high socks and my metallic booties(shocker). Bag dress are a huge trend right now and they look good on everyone. Try wearing this style next time you go out (and try taking a photo of your outfit myspace style) (just kidding) (or am I?).

Also, if you want to read more about my middle school days, check out my post featuring high socks and jean skirts here

Peace,

Maggi

I Look Like A Country Singer Who Is Trying To Get Into Dubstep

Philip Lim for Target Jacket
Apartment 9 Sweater
Seychelles Booties

The title says it all. The distressed blue jeans & cowgirl boots= country singer...The floral bomber jacket= internet dubstep artist....The entire outfit= dubstep country artist. My name would probably be Electric Carrie Underwood...Or Florida Georiga Line feat. Nelly.

^If that doesn't make you cringe I don't know what will. Anyway, despite the alter ego I made up for this outfit, I actually really dig this look. I'm beginning to incorporate a little taste of southern style into my overall personal style. What? I know. A few months ago, my teen angst was at an all time high(or All Time Low, because the band is so ~angsty~), so I would've never thought I would appreciate my southern roots. However, as I have matured(srry barfing), I've learned that where we come from makes us who we are, so why would I not incorporate who I am into my personal style?

Okay I'm done getting sentimental now. Maybe I will become a country dubstep artist.

Love,
Maggie

Hobo Chic

Free People Top
Paige Denim Jacket
Lauren Conrad for Kohl's Jeans
Seychelles Booties
Beanie from Urban Outfitters

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my bio reads "I post outfits everyday that I don't look like a hobo." Well, sometimes that statement can be iffy. I dress borderline hobo on a daily basis. This outfit was no exception. The beanie, jean jacket and plaid shirt are dead giveaways. However, the metallic booties and bright jeans gave the outfit just enough normality to make me look semi put-together. Or as I like to call it, hobo chic (patent pending).

Peace,

Maggie

You Don't Need a Boyfriend to Wear Boyfriend Jeans

Sweater, Jeans, and Necklace- all from H&M
Seychelles Boots

Boyfriend jeans. The name of these ~trendy~ pants is misleading, you do not need a boyfriend to rock a pair of these. Boyfriend jeans are everywhere. Nothing is stopping you from going out to the local Target and picking up a pair of these (if only finding an actual boyfriend was that easy). I love this new style of pant, because my jeans have always been baggy #thxmom. However, because these jeans are baggy, sometimes this can be difficult to style. My advice is to pair them with a tight top, or tuck the top in-- that why your entire outfit isn't baggy. Other than that, the possibilities with boyfriend jeans are endless! I know I'm gonna steal a pair of my boyfriend's jeans! (pictured below).

I Got This Dress at Kmart.

Dress from Adam Levine's collection at KMART
Ya! brand fur vest
Seychelles booties
Urban Outfitters necklace

Coco Chanel's quote, "fashion is in the sky, in the streets, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening" is a great description on how we can get inspired for fashion by all the things around us. My inspiration happened to dawn on me when I was doing some shopping at the local Kmart. While I was getting lost looking for the grocery section, I stumbled across Adam Levine's Kmart clothing collection. I looked around to see if any of the other shoppers noticed the potential in his collection, but it seemed like everyone's subconscious has ruled out a place like Kmart to fill their fashion needs. Look out world, that's all about to change (and you heard it hear first, how exciting). The moral of the story is, let everywhere around you become inspired for your style. Always stop and smell the roses, because you never know what you might find. (that roses really smell like poopoopoo! (just playing) (wow I hate myself))).

Game Day Style

Urban Renewal Dress
Seychelles Booties
Kate Spade Purse

If you're from the South, football is unavoidable. Whether it's high school, college, or professional, football is everywhere...along with the crazed fans that come along with it. People insult directioners or little monsters, but hello??? Football fans act just as wild as a tween girl at her first Jonas Brothers concert(wait that was me).

Anyway, whether you are craZy about football like most of the population, or you are like me in the above tweet, we all need game day outfits. There are three different types of people at a football game: 1) the actual fans there to watch the actual game 2) the fans who partly go to see the game and partly to mingle with friends 3) the fans who literally have no idea what football is but have somehow ended up outdoors at a game with their friends who actually care about football. These categories directly correlate with three different types of outfits at a football game: 1) jerseys 2) dress and cowgirl boots 3) outfits that are more street style than game day style.

My outfit is a mixture between numbers 2 and 3. I feel like this outfit could be worn to a football game or just in everyday life. The white and denim are neutral colors, so you can add accessories of the color of the team you are "cheering" for. The metallic booties stand out from the many cowgirl boots seen at game days in the South, but still have a southern flair. This is an easy outfit to wear to a game for us fashionistas who are unsure as to what sports actually are.

Maggie

Let the Rain Fall Down and Wake Me Up For Class

Zara Top
Skirt From Bp Nordstrom
Shoes from Target
Belt from my grandmother's closet...

Yes Hillary, wake my dreams, but also, WAKE ME UP FOR CLASS. Here's the thing: college is awesome. The people are awesome. Getting up for class is...not awesome. I am currently writing this as the rain heavily hits the thin walls of my dorm like bullets, how it one expected to leave such a comfy bed? Anyway, the outfit above I did not wear to class, (because I look like a literal hobo whenever I go to class) but I wore it to dinner and church! I randomly threw it on like 5 minutes before I left the house, so I guess maybe I could wear this to class? Just playing... but this is just a black and white high/low skirt with a neon orange top and sandals! I love the color contrast in this one and it's definitely something you can incorporate in your daily wardrobe!

Peace, Love, and Hillary Duff,

Maggie

I'm Over Getting Older

Dress from Urban Outfitters
Seychelles Boots
Kate Spade Bag

I'm in college now? But I thought I was a 12 year old tween girl?! Someone needs to alert the media because I'm pretty sure that means I'm a modern marvel. Anyway, college is awesome. I love everything about it, except for one thing: the very rapid decline of motivation to never look cute again. College students are busy people (busy sleeping) and it's almost impossible to wake up for class with more than five minutes to spare, so how does one go to college and still dress cute???
^literally me

Good question, Outfit of the Day by Maggie. I am still trying to figure that one out. So, for the next four years (or more) I will do everything in my power to try to answer that question. Check back here weekly and don't forget to follow my instagram @outfitofthedaybymaggie! Thanks for reading!

Romp The Yard

In the world of the ocean, you have your whales, then you have your killer whales. In the world of fashion, you have you rompers, then you have your KILLER ROMPERS. I'm talking about those rompers that are so fierce that you could wear them on the red carpet and still turn heads. Now, this is my version of a killer romper that's in my price range. I got this at H&M and it was around $20. I'm obsessed with it. It can be worn with booties and some chunky jewelry, or with black wedges and a sleek top knot. Either way, this romper almost as versatile as Christian Bale's acting (s/o to Christian Bale I love you). Anyway, whether it's a romper from H&M, or a designer jumpsuit, I highly suggest investing in one of these babies!

Distressed About Distressed Denim Skirts and Early 2000s Culture

Okay, if you know me, or if you follow me on twitter(@maggieisntcool), you might know that I have an unhealthy obsession with late 90s/early 2000s culture.

Yes Cohen, obsessed is a strong word, but I promise everyone, it fits my degree of affection. Music, fashion, tv shows, movies, Juicy Couture tracksuits- I love it all. Everything was just better in the early 2000s. Everyone had Myspaces and Justin Bieber was not relevant yet. They got to watch life-changing television like Laguna Beach AND The O.C.

Not even joking, The O.C. changed my life. Buttttt, I'll save my obsession post for another day. Right now, I want to talk about one particular trend. Denim skirts. What happened to them? Where'd they go? Did they all end up in LC's closet after Laguna Beach ended? Or did Britney and Justin simply gather all the distressed Hollister and Abercrombie skirts and produce this infamous number?

It's highly possible that all the denim skirts in the world got swooped up into this red carpet look, but I, Outfit of the Day By Maggie, have managed to find one of the remaining denim skirts and have created an ootd to broadcast to all of you readers! Congratulations! This is an important moment!

I styled mine like any good 2005-er would with a cute crop top! However, I added some modern twists, like the ankle boots and the boho necklace. I thought this outfit was really fun and easy to wear to an outdoor concert or just a simple day out. Look out world! This is living, breathing proof that denim skirts don't have to hide anymore! This summer, dig out your old denim skirt and turn up the Dashboard Confessional!

Yet, NEVER forget all the other lost trends of the late 90s/early 2000s. RIP my good friends. Come back as trends sometime (except for you, butterfly clips).

~Maggie~

***sorry this post was so terrible

Can't Be Caged (Actually I Can)

Top was thrifted
Shorts from Last Call Neiman Marcus
Bamboo Sandals
Kate Spade Bag
Oh and I think I got those sunglasses at a grocery store

Let's talk about cage sandals. I first saw that these were becoming a trend a few months ago and I was thrilled. I coined them my "summer boots" and began a hunt for the perfect pair of cage sandals. Though I passed through some beautiful Louboutins and even some beautiful sandals from Aldo, I(my wallet) settled for these Bamboo brand shoes. They are the perfect height and the perfect price. I styled them with my scalloped leather shorts and a basic white top. This is a really easy outfit to wear if you're trying to flaunt some stylish shoes, because people's attention will usually be brought to them. Hope everyone's having a fun summer and trying out new trends!

Beach

Top from L'amore at JCP
Kate Spade Necklace
Lost brand shorts from Vignette's

Ah yes, summer. A time for excessive tanning, sleeping, and eating, and, what better place to do all of that stuff than THE BEACH?  The beach is a magical place. It has great food, great weather(most of the time), and great backdrops for photos. What could go wrong?

(actual photo of my best friend at the beach)

Obviously the majority of the population is forgetting that when you combine self-conscious girls in bikinis and a vast body of water that they are expected to walk around like Victoria Secret models, many, MANY things can go wrong. I'm talking sunburns, bathing suits coming untied accidentally, tripping while walking past of a frat collection of guys looking like Channing Tatum/Ryan Gosling hybrids, the list goes on.

(actual photo of me at the beach)

Often times these things result in hiding under a big umbrella(ella) and drinking capri suns (works for me). But, when it's absolutely imperative that you venture out into the salty shores where dead jellyfish and drunk people wash up, it is possible to look decent!

In the outfit above these awk beach pics, I'm wearing a funky tank with tons of neon colors. Neon colors make you look tan, keep calm and wear neon at the beach(sorry about that). On the bottom I'm just wearing denim lace shorts for a casual, yet cute vibe. For the final, and most important piece, I'm wearing a colorful necklace. My advice to make a fun, free people-y outfit while on the beach is to pile on the jewelry. Although I'm only wearing one necklace, this one really speaks for itself.

Oh yeah, another tip for the beach is something I like to call A.W.S.A.A.T.A. It means, Always Wear Sunglasses At All Times Always. I think it speaks for itself.

Walk a Mile in my Metallic Birkenstocks Before You Judge

Target Top
Forever21 Shorts
Kate Spade Bag
"Sam&Libby" Target shoes

Yes those are birkenstocks. Yes they are metallic. Yes I look like a robot. No I do not care.

Here's the thing. Birkenstocks, chunky sandals, platforms- whatever you want to call them- are back. And, however hard I try, I can't resist these early 2000s shoes. I paired mine with white shorts, my fav striped top, and my kate spade. It was a rather tame outfit for a not so tame shoe. But, I loved it. Super cute outfit to wear with crazy shoes! Go cRaZy this summer and wear Birkenstocks!

An Ode to High School (Musical)

Alright guys, here is my very embarrassing farewell to high school. This post has barely anything to do with fashion, so go ahead and quit reading if that is what you are looking for, or if you have any sense because, like I said, this is super embarrassing.

Well here we are on my first day high school. And, yes I know, I look exactly the same. But am I the same person I was then that I am now? No. (wow so sorry about this). When I entered high school, I could not manage to form a clear sentence without turning bright red and stumbling over the nearest object (or just plain air) for no apparent reason. I was so awkward I was basically the living, breathing form of Taylor Swift/Kayne moment at the 2009 VMAs.

Yet, here I am now, still about as awkward, but so much more CONFIDENT. But, it did not just happen overnight. I did not just wake up one day and decide to get more out of life. Freshman year, I hated school. And I blamed everyone and everything for it, except, I was the one to blame. I just sat around waiting for something to happen instead of making it happen.

Finally, I pulled a Cady Herron in Mean Girls and "sucked all the poison out of my life." I knew it was time to reevaluate my life so, I quit activities I was involved in (cheerleading, dance, etc), I quit hanging out with a certain friend group. Basically, I just quit doing things that I didn't want to do. Now, by no means am I encouraging you to quit everything you do and become a hermit who watches netflix all day(wait that actually sounds really nice). I'm saying that high school is a time to try and find yourself(sorrrrrrry so cheesy) and the only way to do that is to jump out of your comfort zone much like Zefron is in the picture below and never turn back.

Now, during my journey out of my comfort zone, I first started where any stereotypical high school student would: clubs. I joined things like student council, yearbook, swim team, religious activities, etc. and through these cool(I think I'm the only person in the world to find that list of items "cool") hobbies, I met new friends. Once you are doing things that you like to do, you'll meet people that you'll like(wow what a discovery maggie). Seriously though, choosing to live for myself rather than just following what I thought I was "supposed to do" is the best life decision I could have made in high school!

Now, don't get me wrong. There were so many times that I felt(still sometimes feel) lost, scared, confused, etc. It's hard being a teenage girl these days. (Good thing Lizzie Mcguire has so many memes that are still relevant today am I right?). Yes I had friends, tumblr, food to turn to, but one thing I could count on when I was feeling down was my faith. Now, no matter what religion you are, I strongly encourage you to get involved in it. I don't know what I would've done during the times that I felt like I was all alone without prayer and scripture. I'm not saying that is the only way to cope. I'm saying that, while in your high school years, it's important that you know you are never alone.

Oh, but let's back up for a minute. Let's not forget that during this wonderfully awkward time I was still a wonderfully awkward person. You can imagine my horror of "stepping outside my box" and meeting new people. It mostly resulted in me feeling like the young Taylor Swift in the photo above, while simultaneously making this face 24/7 as Jess from New Girl(or Zooey Deschanel) is in the photo below.

But, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, embrace your quirks. If you embrace them, people around you(for the most part) will too. So, be confident. Be yourself. Be weird. Be happy. And, most importantly, be hungry, because food is bae.

That's what I did. I embraced the awkward in all its essence and, guess what, I'm happier than ever! Maybe even as happy as this 2006 Miley Cyrus. Look at those distressed bermuda shorts with those white leather cowgirl boots..... Oh right, fashion! This is a fashion blog! I must have gotten confused with tumblr! Anyway, somehow along the way when I was trying to discover what I actually like and who I actually am, I realized that fashion really is my one true love. Which brings us to this here blog that I started about a year an a half ago! Ootd by Maggie wassup holla!!!!!

My point in all of this really personal and cheesy stuff is that in high school, you need to find what you love and roll with it! Don't worry about what anyone thinks or says or tweets about you! Be yourself and people(who are cool) will love you for it. High school doesn't have to be bad. You can make it great. (I think I was barfing the whole time I was typing it sorry for being so incredibly cheesy).

Now, I would like to thank all the people who have helped me along the way. Thanks to my parents for rocking and always listening to me. Thanks to my teachers for being awesome. Thanks to my friends for being the best people on the planet. Thanks to my dog for being there when none of the previously mentioned people were. And lastly, thanks to my school for being the ugliest backdrop for 99% of my outfit pictures. You all rock. Don't ever change.
